Researching your New Home

Ever wonder what you could actually find out about a place before even buying it? It is amazing the details to consider especially by-laws, taxation, history, and more. A lot of focus is put on the house, which yes, very important. But what if you want to run a business, are there restrictions? If you want to have a farm, are you allowed to have livestock? You want to open a mechanic shop - is there a noise by-law? Whether we like it or not, the government has a say in all of that and it all has to do with the land.

In New Brunswick, properties fall under communities that have slightly varying structures, rates and services.

To start, you can search property assessments here: https://paol.snb.ca/?lang=en

To know which regional commission, check out this map: https://www2.gnb.ca/content/dam/gnb/Departments/lg-gl/pdf/Plan/MapRSC-CarteCSR.pdf

Once you find your regional commission, the website link for the commission can be found here:

This is where you can find out about garbage collection and by-laws.

Beyond the service commissions that manage areas, links to most individual community websites can be found here: https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/departments/elg/local_government/content/community_profiles.html
